“That’s right, Meechie,” Ms. Robertson said. “Now tell us about your
poem and your journey here.”
‘‘Well, it all happened so fast,” Meechie said. “All of the third grade classes were challenged to
write and recite a poem about ourselves. I came up with ‘I’m the Greatest’, because I really do
believe that. I want all my friends in my community and in the world to know that they’re the
greatest, too. I won the contest at the school first, then the national competition. Now I’m here
and I want to tell you and everyone out there watching that they’re the greatest.”
“Mr. J teaches us that what you believe about yourself makes the biggest difference in your life.
You gotta know who you are because sometimes people who don’t feel so good about themselves
or who don’t know who they really are will try to dump their negativity
on you, and you can’t believe that!”
